What is NDIS support coordination?

Support coordination is a Capacity Building support funded in some NDIS plans. A support coordinator helps you make sense of your plan, find and connect with services, set up agreements with providers, and build your own ability to manage your supports. The aim is for you to get more out of your plan and become more confident navigating the NDIS over time.

A support coordinator works for you, not for any one service. They help you compare options and exercise choice and control. A coordinator does not choose your services for you; they give you the information and support to decide for yourself.

You can confirm the current support categories and pricing on the NDIS website (ndis.gov.au), which publishes the official Pricing Arrangements each year.

The three levels of support coordination

The NDIS funds support coordination at three levels, and your plan will state which one you have. Knowing the difference helps you use your funding well.

LevelWhat it covers
Level 1 — Support ConnectionShort-term help to understand your plan and connect with providers and community supports, so you can begin managing supports yourself.
Level 2 — Coordination of SupportsOngoing help to put your plan into action, coordinate multiple providers, respond to changes, and build your skills and confidence over time. This is the most common level.
Level 3 — Specialist Support CoordinationTime-limited, intensive support for people with complex or high-risk circumstances, often coordinating across health, housing or justice systems. Usually delivered by a suitably qualified practitioner.

If you are not sure which level you have or need, our team can review your plan and explain your options.

What a support coordinator does

Our support coordinators help you with the practical work of running your plan. This includes:

  • Understanding your plan: Explaining your budget categories, what each one funds and how flexible the funding is.
  • Connecting with services: Finding suitable providers, comparing options and setting up service agreements and bookings.
  • Coordinating supports: Coordinating disability supports alongside mainstream services such as health, education and housing.
  • Building your capacity: Building your knowledge and skills so you can manage more of your plan independently.
  • Problem-solving: Helping you respond to changes, resolve issues and work through challenges as they come up.
  • Monitoring and reporting: Tracking how your supports are working and preparing for your plan reassessment with the NDIA.

What support coordination does not cover

Being clear about the limits helps set expectations:

  • A coordinator does not choose providers for you or make decisions on your behalf — the choice is always yours.
  • Support coordination funding is separate from your support delivery funding — it pays for coordination, not for the supports themselves.
  • It does not replace plan management, which handles paying provider invoices and tracking your budget financially.
  • Anything outside your plan goals or not funded in your plan.

Who support coordination is for

Support coordination suits NDIS participants who want help making their plan work. People come to us when:

  • A plan is new and they are not sure where to start or how to find providers.
  • They are juggling several providers or funding categories and want it coordinated.
  • Their situation is complex and they need experienced help to keep supports stable.
  • A family member wants support to build the participant’s confidence to self-manage over time.

Support coordination is available to participants who have funding for it in their NDIS plan. If you are unsure whether your plan includes it, our team can review your plan with you.
