Daily tasks can become difficult when disability affects mobility, energy, communication, memory or personal care. Aussie Life Care provides NDIS home care services in Melbourne to support participants with personal routines, meals, household tasks and daily living skills in their own homes. Support is planned around your goals, preferences, funded supports and the tasks you want help to complete.
You may need help for a few scheduled hours each week, support with morning or evening routines, or regular disability home care assistance while living alone or with family. We discuss your current NDIS plan, preferred schedule, communication needs and home environment before services begin.
What Is NDIS Home Care?
NDIS home care is a common term for disability support delivered in a participant’s home. In an NDIS plan, this type of support is often funded under Assistance with Daily Life within Core Supports. It can help with everyday tasks that you cannot complete safely or independently because of your disability.
The support should relate to your disability needs and NDIS goals. Funding is individual, so the tasks, hours and level of assistance available to one participant may be different for another participant. NDIS home care is also different from an aged care Home Care Package, clinical home nursing and accommodation funding.
Who May Benefit from Disability Home Care?
Disability home care services may suit an NDIS participant who wants to remain in their own home but needs practical support with some daily activities. This may include a person who:
- Needs help with showering, dressing, grooming, toileting or another personal routine
- Cannot prepare meals or complete household tasks safely without assistance
- Wants to build or maintain skills for cooking, laundry, household organisation or daily routines
- Needs scheduled support rather than continuous Supported Independent Living
- Lives alone, with family, with a partner or in another private living arrangement
- Has relevant NDIS funding and needs a provider that can work with their goals and preferences
What Our NDIS Home Care Services May Include
Your support schedule and service agreement should list the tasks that have been approved. Depending on your plan, needs and the worker’s role, support may include the following areas.
Personal Care and Daily Routines
- Assistance with showering, bathing, grooming and oral hygiene
- Help with dressing and undressing
- Support with toileting and routine continence needs where documented and within worker competency
- Assistance with mobility, positioning or transfers where the correct plan, equipment and worker training are in place
- Help to follow morning, evening or bedtime routines
- Medication prompts or assistance where this has been assessed, documented and is within the worker’s authorised role
Meals and Everyday Nutrition
- Planning simple meals based on your preferences and documented requirements
- Preparing and cooking meals in your home
- Assistance with eating or drinking where the support plan and worker competency allow it
- Cleaning the kitchen after meal preparation
- Support to follow guidance provided by an appropriate health professional
Food and groceries are ordinary living costs and are generally paid by the participant. Specialised mealtime or swallowing support may require an assessed plan and workers with the required training.
Household Tasks
- Light cleaning related to the rooms and areas you use
- Laundry, folding clothes and changing bed linen
- Washing dishes and keeping frequently used areas hygienic
- Taking out household rubbish
- Assistance with shopping lists, household organisation and putting groceries away
- Support to complete tasks with you where building independence is part of your goal
Building Daily Living Skills
- Learning or practising meal preparation
- Developing a manageable household routine
- Using reminders, checklists or other agreed tools
- Building confidence with laundry and basic home organisation
- Making choices about how and when your support is delivered
What NDIS Home Care Does Not Automatically Include
NDIS funding does not cover every cost associated with living at home. The following items are generally outside standard disability home care assistance unless a separate funded support and clear eligibility apply:
- Rent, mortgage payments, utilities, groceries and ordinary household purchases
- General cleaning, gardening or maintenance that is not related to disability support needs or funded in the plan
- Building repairs, renovations or home modifications that have not been separately assessed and approved
- Medical diagnosis, treatment or services that are the responsibility of Medicare, hospitals or the health system
- Clinical procedures such as wound care, injections or nursing assessments when a qualified nurse is required
- Continuous shared living support or 24 hour supervision that should be assessed under another home and living support such as SIL
- Community access, transport or social participation that is outside the agreed home care service and funding category
- Tasks that are not listed in the service agreement or are outside the worker’s competence and role
How NDIS Funding and Home Care Costs Work
Assistance with Daily Life may appear within the Core Supports section of an NDIS plan. The amount available and how flexibly it can be used depend on the plan. A provider cannot decide that a support is funded without checking the participant’s plan and the purpose of the support.
The cost of NDIS home care services can be affected by:
- Weekday, evening, Saturday, Sunday or public holiday delivery
- The length and frequency of each support shift
- Whether the support is standard or requires a higher level of worker competency
- Provider travel and activity based transport where these are allowed and agreed
- Cancellation terms and notice periods
- Non face to face work where it is permitted and agreed
- Whether your funding is NDIA managed, plan managed or self managed
Before support begins, ask for a written service agreement that explains the agreed schedule, prices, travel, cancellations, responsibilities and how changes can be requested. Current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits apply where relevant.
How Our Disability Home Care Service Works
1. Enquiry or Referral
Contact Aussie Life Care or submit the referral form. A participant, family member, guardian, support coordinator or another authorised person can make the enquiry.
2. Discuss Your Needs and Preferences
We discuss the tasks you need help with, your goals, preferred days and times, communication requirements, cultural preferences, mobility needs, home access and any known risks or support plans.
3. Confirm Funding and Service Terms
The relevant NDIS funding and plan management arrangement are reviewed. The service agreement should then confirm the approved tasks, schedule, rates and responsibilities before regular support starts.
4. Arrange a Suitable Support Worker
Tell us about preferences that affect your comfort and safety, including communication style, language, cultural understanding, gender preference, experience requirements and compatibility. Worker availability and the skills required for the support will also be considered.
5. Start and Review Support
Support begins according to the agreed schedule. You can provide feedback about timing, tasks, communication and worker fit. The service can be reviewed when your goals, plan or disability support needs change, subject to funding and availability.

Choosing Among NDIS Home Care Providers

- Can the provider support the days, times and tasks I need?
- How are worker preferences, compatibility and required competencies considered?
- What happens if my regular worker is unavailable?
- How are personal information, consent and privacy managed?
- What training or competency is required for my specific support tasks?
- How are incidents, complaints and service changes handled?
- What travel, cancellation and minimum shift terms apply?
- Will I receive a clear service agreement before support begins?
